SELF LIMITING BELIEFS

A self limiting belief is an opinion, belief or state of mind you hold about yourself that is in some way limiting and restricting you.

But I don’t believe these are actually always bad.

I believe they are misunderstood. Because in fact every belief we hold is limiting.

By definition when we believe in something, then that’s the box we chose to stand in and all else outside it is not considered, thus we are limited within our beliefs.

We live by these beliefs and they become true for us. We repeat actions, behaviours and emotions to support them and create outcomes that confirm our original beliefs.

It’s not good or bad. It’s what makes us ‘us’. It’s what gives us our individuality and character.

However I do think we need to check we’re in the right ‘limiting belief’ box! We don’t need to necessarily aim for ‘positive thinking’, but we do need to aim for ‘purposeful and targeted thinking’.

Are our thoughts, feelings and subsequent actions in line with our goals? Are our strongest emotions aligned with our goals and the outcomes we want or are they centred around what we don’t want to happen? Our strongest emotions will override weaker ones when it comes to how we then act and what we then create with the knock on effect.

So we need to be sure, the limiting belief box we’re in, is precisely what we want to aim for. We can change it at any time. But at all times, in the present moment, we need to stay in accurate alignment with the beliefs we want to realise
